Since
A Legacy of Authentic Mexican Flavor
Taquerias Atotonilco has been serving the vibrant flavors of Mexico since its founding in 1972 by Don Jesús, a gentleman from Arandas, Jalisco. Nestled in the heart of Little Village on 26th Street, Don Jesús' passion for authentic Mexican cuisine quickly turned the taqueria into a local favorite.
A New Beginning
After five years of hard work, Don Jesús decided it was time to step away from the restaurant. It was then that Raul Muñoz, who used to deliver tortillas and fresh vegetables to the taqueria, saw an opportunity. When he heard the business was for sale, Raul asked Don Jesús to name his price. This decision marked the beginning of a new chapter for Raul and his brother Oscar Muñoz. Together, they embarked on their entrepreneurial journey, keeping the rich tradition of Mexican food alive in Little Village.
By Raul’s side was his wife, Norma Muñoz, who had been involved in the restaurant from the very beginning. Her dedication and hard work in the kitchen and with customers played a vital role in shaping the success of the business. Norma’s warm presence and commitment to quality ensured that Taquerias Atotonilco continued to grow.
Expanding the Family Tradition
As the Muñoz family continued to grow the business, Oscar Muñoz opened a new location on 47th Street and started his own brand of tortillas under the same name, Atotonilco. Raul Muñoz, Norma, and their children, always committed to delivering the best quality and authentic Mexican food, have grown the business to include locations in Joliet and Stone Park.
